December and January

Unfortunately we didn't have any indoor meetings in November, December or January, but we are working hard to have another meeting in February.
It is a bit difficult to find people who can do the talk, so if you have something interesting to tell or you know somebody who has something interesting to tell and the time to do it, please let us know.

We did have a nice outdoor trip at Marangu Hotel in December. A big thank you to Marangu Hotel for their hospitality like every year in December.
The January trip was to Ngurdoto Lodge in Usa River, close to the gate of Arusha National Park. As there is no official camp site, the Lodge opened one of their bungalows for the campers to use the toilet and the shower. Well done, thanks Ngurdoto Lodge
And another thank you goes to Eli Dahi who organized a nice walk along the river towards Usa River. From Usa River back to the lodge was quickly done with a dala dala.

If you know a camp site that would be nice to go to with the Mountain Club, tell us. All ideas are welcome!!

See you at one of our events!!

Round Trip Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro Mounain Cub had a great trip around the mountain on the last weekend of November. As it is a tradition we had a couple of car break downs on the way which just add to the excitement of going out together.
There was a lunch stop in the Swedish like forest of Rongai and we went on along a dirt and dusty road to Simba farm's lust green lawns.
The BBQ was set up under shady green trees and the evening inspired us to a cosy chat around the camp fire.
The night was cold, the morning fresh (thanks for hot water in the shower!) and a brisk walk to the top of the hill gave us all energy for yet another week in hot Moshi.

Wilfred Moshi - Mount Everest

On Thursday the 11th of October we had another good indoor meeting.
Wilfred Moshi told us about his amazing adventure on the Mount Everest. From the day the decision to climb this mountain was made, through preparation, climbing course and instructions, to the best moment of his life on top of Mount Everest and then to the arrival back at KIA. The story was illustrated with beautiful photo's and an interesting movie in which it became clear how difficult and dangerous this climb is.
Thank you all for being there and karibu tena!!

Lake Chala Trip

On Saturday the 29th of September we had a beautiful Hash at Lake Chala. Unfortunately we didn't see any elephants, although the evidence that they have been there was very clear. We did see a lot of baboons and scratch marks through the flower that was put there to set the trail. Obviously the baboons like to eat the flower.
As it was very warm during the walk the food and drinks at the end of the trail were much appreciated.

After the day visitors had left, the camping trip became an all Dutch event. Only Dutch people stayed overnight. We made dinner and shared our food and drinks under an (almost) full, very bright moon.

On Sunday the day started with rain, but after breakfast the sun came through and it became a nice day. We went swimming and again enjoyed the lovely views around Lake Chala.

Lake Chala is a very nice place. It has a good campsite with hot showers. There's a bar and you can buy something to eat. I really recommend it.

Trip to Lake Chala

The Kilimanjaro Mountain Club has cancelled the trip to Lake Ambussel. There were not enough people interested to
go. Instead we are going to Lake Chala.

Lake Chala is a 1,5 hour drive from Moshi. It has a nice camp site with good facilities (clean toilets, hot shower, bar-
restaurant).
Camping rates for residents are: adults 7 Dollar. Children 3,50 Dollar. Children under the age of 3 free.

There will be a Hash on Saturday at 3 pm. If you want to come to the Hash without staying overnight day prices are:

Iefuka Campsite - Lake Jipe

The Kilimanjaro Mountain club is organising an overnight camping trip on the 25th and 26th of August 2012 to Iefuka campsite near Lake Jipe, on the East slope of the North Pare Mountains. Lake Jipe area is 80 km from MOSHI and is bordering Kenya. To reach the camp there is 45 km of feeder road starting from Kifaru on the Dar es Salaam tarmac road.

There are lots of hiking possibilities around the campsite, there is a waterfall to walk to and we might visit Iefuka fruit farm.

The campsite is shady and equipped with a very basic pit latrine and basic shower. There are drinks available, but to be on the safe side, bring your own drinking water.
Rates for camping: Tsh 5,000 for adults, Tsh 3,000 for children.

Come to the briefing on Wednesday the 22st of August 2012 at the Coffee Shop at 5.00pm.
